Who We Are

Hi! Welcome. We're glad you decided to check us out.

If you visit us, you'll most likely find we are a group of people that you already know. We are the people you work with, the ones your kids go to school with, the people you live next to. We're just ordinary people... but we serve an EXTRAORDINARY God... and He's the reason we're here.

Vriesland Reformed Church belongs to the Reformed Church in America, the oldest protestant denomination in North America. You can dive deeper into our statements and specific beliefs HERE.

Otherwise, know that our faith is centered in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

what is the Gospel?

The gospel is the good news of God’s grace. God has stretched out his hand to rescue us. It is the story of the triune God and his people. It is the grand narrative of creation, sin, exile, and redemption that has been orchestrated by God.

At the center of the narrative is the living, breathing person of Jesus, the Son of God. He lived a life of sinless perfection, was wrongly accused, convicted, and marched to his death. He death is an atoning sacrifice, paying the penalty for sin and breaking the power of sin. It is the culmination of God’s amazing grace and relentless love and his resurrection is the ultimate display of God’s power. Through Jesus’ life, death, resurrection and ascension, God has opened the doors to a new world and has invited us in.

The call of the gospel is simple. Repent and believe in Jesus. He is the source of all joy and salvation. We were all slaves to sin, but the gospel of Jesus Christ sets us free and marks us as sons and daughters of God. Through Jesus the process of reconciling and remaking the world has begun and will be completed when he returns again.

There are plenty of other stories being told in our world. Stories that try to tell you how to climb the mountain and reach god, stories that encourage you to “do better” or “try harder”, stories that claim the answer to life’s problems lies deep within you. But only one story, God’s story, offers rescue. In only one story, does the God of the universe reach down into the deepest, darkest pits of your life, holding out his hand. No matter your past, no matter your shame, no matter your sin and failure… God invites you to be a part of his story, to take his hand and trust him for rescue.
